Natick Mall & Residences

Structural complexities – “Rolling Hills theme” – Jumbo 3D curving trusses – Special components – Tight deadlines – A myriad of changes –

This four-phase, 1.7-million sq ft, 13,000-ton, retail and residential structural steel renovation project had all the ingredients of a potential scheduling disaster.

Renowned for its ingenuity in accommodating evolving requirements, Canatal successfully pulled through.

Our Time Engineering team came up with a series of TIMESMART solutions to accommodate the ever increasing changes to the original plans. Only normal in retail, the Natick Mall was welcoming new tenants with their own set of special demands.

Agile manufacturing is the key

Canatal prides itself on being able to alter workflow in ingenious and resourceful ways to meet deadlines.

Our fabrication activities depend on our experienced in-house Design & Engineering group to iron out potential production problems and avoid bottlenecks, all while time-managing the work flow to successfully meet the deadlines.

The Procurement service skilfully secured the special steel tubing needed for the Jumbo 3D trusses.

Canatal’s TIMESMART Manufacturing facilities allowed us to deal with the specific structural complexities of the project.

Again, we accommodated changes and delivered

  • Incomplete documentation for fast-track project
  • Geometrically complex and oversized steel members
  • Special products and intricate connections
  • Material availability

No matter the challenge… we deliver!

Seamless and flawless 13,000 ton structural steel project

“The four phases of the Natick Collection / Nouvelle 13, 000 ton structural steel project proved to be quite challenging. Canatal’s performance exceeded the expectations set out for the project.

Most notably, given the geometric challenges in the structure’s shape, it is amazing that almost no connective field work was necessary. We credit Canatal’s expertise in detail modeling and its early involvement with the design team. This made for a seamless structural steel project.

In such a complex project, there was no room for error. Custom shape fabrications, cambering, structural connection calculations, various surface treatments, numerous owner driven changes on the retail side of the project while delivering to a crew of over 100 iron workers and five erecting cranes at peak . Everything came together flawlessly”.

“Canatal’s performance is attributed to the quality of its people.

Canatal should be very proud of the work that it does and the way they do it”
